How booking a TCF Canada sitting works

Mocko does not sell exam seats. Here is what to get right before you pay.

1

Confirm you need TCF Canada, not plain TCF

TCF Canada is the version IRCC accepts for permanent residence and citizenship. The general TCF and the TCF Québec are different exams with different score reports, and they are not interchangeable.

2

Register with the centre directly

France Éducation international sets the exam; the approved centre sells the seat. Each one runs its own calendar, sets its own fee and handles its own registrations.

3

Ask whether the sitting is on computer or paper

Most Canadian centres now offer computer-delivered sessions, which usually means faster results. The directory flags which centres have the option.

4

Leave enough gap if you might resit

Centres generally require a waiting period — commonly quoted as 15 working days — between two TCF sittings. Check before you book a second date.

What it costs

Each approved centre sets its own price. In Canada the four-skill TCF Canada usually falls somewhere around $380–$400 CAD. Confirm the exact fee with the centre before you pay.

On the day

  • Bring the passport or government-issued ID you registered with; centres check it against your booking.
  • Arrive well before the start. Late arrivals are normally refused and the fee is not refunded.
  • Phones and watches are stored outside the exam room.
  • Results are typically issued within two to four weeks, and faster for computer-delivered sittings.
  • A TCF Canada attestation is valid for two years from the date you sat it.

TCF test centre questions, answered

How many TCF Canada test centres are there in Canada?

There are 46 approved TCF Canada centres across 10 provinces and territories, in 34 cities. Quebec has the most, followed by Ontario.

Which is easier, the TCF Canada or the TEF Canada?

Neither is easier in any official sense — both convert to the same CLB/NCLC scale and IRCC treats them equally. The formats differ: TCF Canada uses multiple choice for reading and listening with a fixed number of questions, while the TEF has more items and a different speaking structure. Most candidates choose on seat availability and which format they find more comfortable in practice tests.

Can I register for the TCF Canada online?

You register with an approved centre, not with France Éducation international. Most Canadian centres take registrations through their own website or by email; the contact details for each are on its page here.

What is the difference between TCF Canada and TCF Québec?

TCF Canada is used for federal immigration and citizenship. TCF Québec is aimed at Québec immigration programs. They are separate sittings with separate score reports, so book the one your program asks for.

How much does the TCF Canada cost?

Centres set their own fees, typically around $380–$400 CAD for all four skills in Canada. Always confirm with the centre, since prices change without notice.

How long are TCF Canada results valid?

Two years from the test date. IRCC will not accept an older result at the time you submit, so time your sitting against when you expect to apply.
