How the CRS score works

Your CRS score is the sum of four blocks, out of a maximum of 1,200 points:

  • Core human capital — age, education, language and Canadian work experience (up to 500)
  • Spouse or common-law partner factors (up to 40)
  • Skill transferability — education and experience combined with language (up to 100)
  • Additional points — provincial nomination, French ability, Canadian study, a sibling in Canada (up to 600)

Language is the factor you can change fastest. Your CLB level earns direct points and unlocks skill-transferability bonuses, so improving from CLB 7 to CLB 9 can be worth 50+ points on its own.

Frequently asked questions

What is the CRS and how is it scored?

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) ranks Express Entry candidates out of 1,200 points. It adds up your core human-capital factors (age, education, language and Canadian work experience), spouse factors, skill-transferability combinations, and additional points such as a provincial nomination or French-language ability.

How accurate is this CRS calculator?

It applies the official IRCC point tables and reflects the latest 2025 rules, including the removal of arranged-employment (job offer) points on 25 March 2025. It is a planning estimate — your official score is calculated by IRCC when you submit an Express Entry profile.

Why does my language score affect my CRS so much?

Language is one of the highest-leverage factors. Your CLB level earns direct points for each ability and also unlocks skill-transferability points when combined with your education and work experience. Moving from CLB 7 to CLB 9 can add 50+ points, which is why test prep is often the fastest way to raise a CRS score.

Do job offers still give CRS points?

No. As of 25 March 2025, IRCC removed the 50 and 200 CRS points previously awarded for a valid job offer (arranged employment). This calculator does not include those points. A provincial nomination still adds 600.

What CRS score do I need for an invitation?

There is no fixed cut-off — it changes with every draw and by category. General draws have often required scores in the 480–540 range, while category-based draws (including French-language proficiency) can have much lower cut-offs. Raising your language scores and gaining Canadian experience are the most reliable ways to improve.
