What to know before you book
- Bring the same government-issued photo ID you registered with. For IRCC purposes that normally means a passport or permanent resident card.
- Arrive at least 30 minutes early: check-in includes ID verification and a photo.
- The whole test is on computer in one sitting, and CELPIP-General takes about three hours.
- Personal items, phones and watches go into storage before you enter the room.
- Results are usually available online within four to five business days.

How many CELPIP centres are there in British Columbia?
23 locations, spread across Vancouver, Surrey, Victoria, Kamloops, Prince Rupert, Richmond, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Nanaimo, North Vancouver, Prince George, Whistler.
Can I sit the CELPIP in one province and immigrate to another?
Yes. A CELPIP result is national — where you sit it has no bearing on which province or program you apply to. Many candidates travel to whichever centre has the earliest free seat.
Can I register at a CELPIP test centre?
No. CELPIP test centres do not process registrations at all — every booking goes through the official CELPIP website. The centre is only the venue.
What is the difference between CELPIP-General and CELPIP-General LS?
CELPIP-General tests listening, reading, writing and speaking and takes about three hours; it is accepted for permanent residence, visas, professional designation and employment. CELPIP-General LS tests listening and speaking only, takes about an hour, and is accepted for Canadian citizenship.
Which CELPIP centre should I choose?
Any official centre delivers the same computer-based test and the same result, so choose on date availability and travel. In big cities the venues are often within a few kilometres of each other, and one will usually have a seat when another is sold out.
How soon do I get CELPIP results?
Results are normally posted to your online account within four to five business days of the sitting — considerably faster than the French exams.
